When my love swears that she is made of truth…

When my love swears that she is made of truth

I do believe her, though I know she lies,

That she might think me some untutored youth,

Unlearnèd in the world’s false subtleties.

Thus vainly thinking that she thinks me young,

Although she knows my days are past the best,

Simply I credit her false-speaking tongue;

On both sides thus is simple truth suppressed.

But wherefore says she not she is unjust?

And wherefore say not I that I am old?

O, love’s best habit is in seeming trust,

And age in love, loves not to have years told.

Therefore I lie with her, and she with me,

And in our faults by lies we flattered be.

Sonnet 138: When my love swears that she is made of truth
William Shakespeare

“I think it’s important to have clearly defined goals in life, don’t you?

“I think it’s important to have clearly defined goals in life, don’t you?

Especially if you don’t have a lot of life left. Because if you don’t have clear goals,

you might run out of time, and when the day comes, you’ll find yourself standing on the parapet of a tall

building, or sitting on your bed with a bottle of pills in your hand, thinking, Shit! I blew it.

If only I’d set clearer goals for myself!”

“A tale for the Time Being” by Ruth Ozeki

See it Through

When you’re up against a trouble,
Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
Plant your feet and take a brace.
When it’s vain to try to dodge it,
Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer,
See it through!
Black may be the clouds about you
And your future may seem grim,
But don’t let your nerve desert you;
Keep yourself in fighting trim.
If the worst is bound to happen,
Spite of all that you can do,
Running from it will not save you,
See it through!

Even hope may seem but futile,
When with troubles you’re beset,
But remember you are facing
Just what other men have met.
You may fail, but fall still fighting;
Don’t give up, whate’er you do;
Eyes front, head high to the finish.
See it through!

Edgar Albert Guest

Closing your eyes isn’t going to change anything.

“Closing your eyes isn’t going to change anything.

Nothing’s going to disappear just because you can’t see what’s going on.

In fact, things will even be worse the next time you open your eyes.

That’s the kind of world we live in. Keep your eyes wide open.

Only a coward closes his eyes.

Closing your eyes and plugging up your ears won’t make time stand still.”

Haruki Murakami
